Call for creators

Your work,
your price, our audience.

SurfLingo turns a subtitled video into an interactive language lesson. Submit a film, a documentary, a series or a podcast: listing is free, and you decide whether it is given away, pay-what-you-want, or paid.

Coming from Vimeo On Demand?

What you get out of it

A use that streaming does not cover.

🔤

Every word becomes clickable

Your subtitles stop being text at the bottom of the screen: every word is defined, graded by CEFR level, and lands in the viewer’s vocabulary notebook. A documentary from 2019 becomes usable again.

🎧

An audience that comes for the language

Our users pick a title for its level and its subject, not its release date. A back catalogue is an asset here, where it is a blind spot everywhere else.

🌍

Translated, if you want it

You allow us — or not — to translate your subtitles into our other languages. It is one checkbox, it can be undone, and nothing is translated without it.

The terms

Nothing that locks you in.

🆓

Listing is free

We charge nothing for submission, hosting, or subtitle generation. There is no creator subscription, and there will not be one for the first wave.

🔓

No exclusivity, no minimum term

You remain free to distribute your work anywhere else, at the same time. A title can be pulled from the catalogue on request, within 30 days.

🛡️

Your files stay yours

You keep every one of your rights. We use your work only within the agreed scope, never resell it, and derive no training dataset from it.

Your price

Three models, and you choose.

The model is chosen per work, and can be changed later. Nothing forces you to monetise.

Free

Your work is available at no charge. A good choice to find an audience again, or to restore access for viewers who already bought the film from you elsewhere.

Pay what you want

The viewer pays what they like. You set the minimum: zero — they can then watch without paying — or a floor, if you prefer a threshold.

Fixed price

A single amount, set by you. This is the closest thing to what a Vimeo On Demand storefront used to do.

As of today, SurfLingo does not yet collect payments on your behalf and does not pay out automatically. The model you state here commits the catalogue and is what we use to build the payment chain; we will write to you before the first euro is collected. We would rather say so now than let you find out later.

What to provide

One file, one subtitle track.

A video, or audio

MP4 preferred, MKV and MOV accepted. For a podcast, an MP3 is enough. We work from the link you give us — nothing to upload here.

At least one subtitle track

In .srt, in the spoken language. That is what makes a work usable straight away: with no text, there is no word to click.

No subtitles? We generate them

Free of charge, with our transcription models, and we send them to you for review before anything goes live. You keep the final say on the text.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises.

1

You submit

The form below. Allow five minutes.

2

We review by hand

Every submission is read by a person: nature of the work, rights, subtitle quality. We answer all of them, including when the answer is no.

3

Subtitles and formatting

We generate or proofread the subtitles, then send them back for your approval.

4

It goes live

Your work joins the catalogue with the pricing model you chose.

To be clear

What SurfLingo is not.

If you are looking to replace a VOD storefront like for like, these four points should stop you before you fill in the form.

  • It is not an OTT platform: no TV app, no Roku, no Apple TV.
  • There is no DRM. We prevent viewer downloads, not screen recording.
  • Payouts are not automated as of today, and no date will be promised to you here.
  • The catalogue is being built. First-wave creators shape its scope — that is a real advantage, but it is not an audience you already have.

Submit a work

Tell us about your film.

A well-filled submission saves three rounds of email. We answer every request.

You
The work

No upload here. Give us a download link, even a temporary one — we fetch the file by hand.

Languages and subtitles
Languages spoken in the work

Tick as many as needed: one file can hold several languages.

Does the work already have subtitles?
Do you allow us to translate the subtitles into our other languages?

Translated by our models, open to revision, and reversible: you can change your mind at any time.

Your price

The information you send is used solely to process your submission. It is never resold or used for marketing. You can ask for its deletion at any time.

FAQ

The questions that keep coming up.

What does it cost?+

Nothing. Not the submission, not the hosting, not the subtitle generation. Were that ever to change, it would apply to new submissions only, never retroactively.

Can I distribute elsewhere at the same time?+

Yes. There is no exclusivity, no territory and no minimum term. You can pull your work from the catalogue on request, within 30 days.

My film has no subtitles. Is that a blocker?+

No. Tick the relevant box and we produce them at our expense, then send them to you for review. Nothing goes live before you have approved the text.

What do you do with my file?+

It is stored on European servers and played inside the app, never redistributed and never downloadable by the viewer. We derive no training dataset from it.

I do not hold every right on a title.+

On that title, it is a blocker: we only list works whose submitter holds the distribution rights. Nothing stops you from starting with the part of your catalogue that is clear.

When do I get paid?+

Not yet, and we will not give you a date we could not keep. The payment chain is being built; the model you state on submission is what we size it against. You will be told before the first collection.
